Outages at Ringhals in 2012

The outages taking place in 2012 will not be as extensive as in the previous year. R1 is planning for an outage period of roughly seven weeks, and other blocks for about a month each. Details of some of this year's biggest outage jobs are as follows:

Ringhals 1
Outage start: 6 May
• Replacement of low pressure turbines in turbine 12 through the ROTEX project. An equivalent replacement was carried out on the other turbine train last year.
• Replacement of turbine protection system (TPC).
• Improvement of condensate purification in turbine 12 (KRA).
• Automation of boron injection (Autobor)*
• Replacement of safety switchgear on the B-side (BASS)*
• Installation of quenchers in four positions to rectify the noise issue from drainage pipes in the reactor pool.
• Instrument maintenance
• Testing prescribed by authorities

* Outage work which is part of Ringhals' 2015 transition plans to incorporate extra safety in line with SSM requirements.

Ringhals 2
Outage start: 15 September
• Cable separation in the reactor containment*
• Replacement of shaft seals for charge pump 2 and 3 in the system for chemical and volume control (system 334)
• Installation of electrical bushings*
• Environmental qualification*
• Seismic solutions, including permanent installation of ventilation devices in the electricity building and diesel building*
• Tank testing
• Steam generator testing
• Battery replacement, UPS21 and UPS22
• Diesel review, DG220 and DG230

Ringhals 3
Outage start: 6 June
• Replacement of high-pressure turbines
• Seismic solutions whereby cabinets in the relay rooms will be earthquake-proofed, and relays replaced.*
• Environmental qualification*
• Reconstruction of vents on the charging pumps, to reduce emissions
• Motor replacement on one reactor cooling pump
• Generator replacement on diesel generator DG320

Ringhals 4
Outage start: 11 August
• Replacement of twelve kerotest check valves in the emergency cooling system for the reactor core, system 323.
• Seismic solutions whereby the most essential cabinets in the relay room and control room will be earthquake-proofed, and relays replaced.*
• Environmental qualification*
• Replacement of starting transformer T94, a fire protection measure
• Large-scale electrical and mechanical review of back-up power diesel DG430
• Internal inspection of boron water tank, RWATST
• Inspection of steam generators, testing following 2011 replacement
• Remaining items from last year's big projects FREJ, TURBO and NICE
